Arthroscopy

Medication and physical therapy is commonly used to treat moderate to severe pain in the knee or other joints. When these measures do not suffice, an arthroscopy may be a good option to help “clean out” the joint in order to get rid of scar tissue or other elements that may be inflicting pain.  When looking specifically at the knee joint, some common causes of knee pain are the following:

    • Degenerated Meniscus
    • Osteoarthritis of the knee
    • Pain related to previous traumatic injury
    • Sports injuries

Anesthesia: Regional
OR time: 1:00 to 1:30 hours
Recovery time in hospital: 1 day (ambulatory in most cases)
Recovery period after discharge: 1 to 2 weeks
